Epilogue and thoughts

Being the 4th of July, I debated on staying in Ludington to watch the fireworks.  In 2011 my friend Ken and I had driven up there to watch them.  It was not as impressive as I remembered them being.  I decided that in the four and a half hours it would take for fireworks to start, I could be home.  It was hot.  I was tired.  I wanted to go home.

I drove home.  Had I not stopped for a 10 minute nap earlier in the day and let the car run with the AC on, I'd have made it home without a problem.  As it was, I ran out of gas 6 miles from home, although the car said I still had gas in the tank.

After getting gas, the car wouldn't start and the battery ran down again.  I was unable to jump start it this time.  I called and had the car towed to a service station.  The next day they determined the battery was dead and replaced it.

I'm glad I took this trip.  It turned out to cost more than I expected.  This was primarily because I didn't camp as much as I had planned and I ate out much more than expected.  I only had one hard reservation during the trip and this gave me a great deal of freedom to do what I wanted, when I wanted.  I think that that was a great way to do the trip.  The freedom was great.  Its not something that you have when you punch the clock for a living.

The time away gave time to think about what I'm doing in terms of work and what I do.  I've decided to make some changes.  I'm going to take my photography a bit more seriously.  I'm hoping to take a photography class.  Maybe do something a little more than just be a hobbyist.

All in all, it was great to have that time off.  I'd love to take a trip like that again.  I'm thinking for my next trip I'm thinking of heading to the northeast.  I've never been there and I'd like to get some fall pictures.

  1. While I enjoy taking my train trips, one thing I don't like is the fact that I'm on sort of schedule.

    1. I know we've talked about that before. That's one of the big reasons I'm reluctant to take the train. I think I'd enjoy the experience of a cross country train trip, but I really like the freedom to stop and see what I want to.

I really suggest trying that sometime.
