The coming of spring

Warm weather melted started melting the snow. Here is some of that water on its journey.

Moss and Snow

Walking around my uncle's place in Pennsylvania the melting snow revealed this below.

Studies in an old barn.

For some reason the hinge on this old barn caught my eye as I was walking around and I snapped a picture.

Mackinac Light

The Mackinac City Lighthouse on a much nicer day than today.

Lake Michigan Shoreline

When you think of the Lake Michigan shoreline here in Michigan, you probably think of sandy beaches. But the Upper Penninsula also borders Lake Michigan and some of its shoreline is different.

This isn't gravel. It is millions of small shells.

This looks more like something you would find on Lake Superior.

North Bay Park - February

After returning from Mackinac yesterday, I took a walk through North Bay Park for my February pictures. It was brighter out this time, but there was more snow. So much so that that is about all there was to see, it seemed.

I only saw 3 people while walking. It is clear that although the park is closed, a lot of people still walk the paths. I enjoyed the solitude, but I look forward to the time when the snow is gone and I can walk in the park before work again.

Mackinac Bridge

Yesterday a friend was heading to the bridge to take some pictures and asked if I wanted to go along. I decided to tag along and take my camera myself. It wasn't too cold, but the wind was biting so I didn't spend much time outside taking pics.

I think I like the colors in the first picture better, but the composition of the second. What do you think?

Mouth of the Two Hearted River

A short distance west of Crisp Point is the mouth of the Two Hearted River. At the end of the road, just off the parking lot is a foot bridge that crosses the river to the shorline of Lake Superior.

Many times Lake Superior can generate it's own weather effects. On this particular day heavy fog blanketed the shoreline. Two miles inland, the sun was shining brightly.

The first image is how the picture appeared as I took it. The second I was messing around with a photo program and turned the picture into a black and white photo. Which do you like better and why?

Sunset over Lake Michigan - Wilderness State Park

As you're heading to the end of the road it forks, one branch leading to the west, the other south. If you head south, you come to a nice parking area where you can walk to the shore if you don't mind getting your feet wet. It is nice there and I wish I'd have arrived earlier so I could have gotten some better pictures. Again, this doesn't really convey how cold it was.

Wilderness State Park

If you drive to the end of the road at Wilderness State Park, this is what you will find waiting for you there.

Wilderness State Park

Wilderness State Park is west of Mackinac City on the shore of Lake Michigan. From a couple of points along the shore, you can see the Mackinac Bridge. Here, the sun was setting, throwing a nice light on the towers of the bridge. What the picture doesn't convey is just how cold it was.

Fisherman's Island

Fisherman's Island State Park is in northern Michigan on the shore of Lake Michigan. The day I was there was cold and blustery so I didn't spend too much time taking pictures. I imagine I'll head back there one of these days whent the weather is better and explore more.

A View From the Top

One of the nice things about Crisp Point Light is that it is open to the public so you can climb to the top. Unlike some other lights, this one is free. All you have to do is climb the stairs. The view is beautiful.

This is a view from the top looking east. The end of the boardwalk has been washed away by a storm.

Crisp Point Lighthouse

Last summer I visited Crisp Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse itself isn't terribly impressive, when compared to other examples of Great Lakes lighthouses, but the setting, and lack of people, make it well worth while.

Crisp Point Lighthouse

Crisp Point Light is located on the shore of Lake Superior west of Whitefish Point. It is pretty isolated so it doesn't get the traffic that Whitefish Point does. I highly recommend it if you get the chance to visit.
