Between Glacier and Craters of the Moon

After leaving Glacier, I headed south.  The weather soon began to clear.

Driving along, I saw this bridge that appeared to be abandoned.  I've always been fascinated with structures like this, wondering why they were abandoned.  As I've gotten older, I've come to understand this more, but I still see them as windows to a time past and stories forgotten.

As I approached Butte, I saw this statue.  Named Our Lady of the Rockies, it is a statue of the Virgin Mary and was erected on the Continental Divide by the people of Butte.  At 90 feet tall, it is the second tallest statue in the States second only to the Statue of Liberty.  It is dedicated to women everywhere, in particular mothers.

Big Sky Country

Just after entering Montana, I drove through a rain shower.  After passing through, I was treated to a beautiful rainbow. 

The Wolf Point Bridge.  This is the longest bridge of its type in Montana and was built in 1930.

This is a memorial constructed by the Great Northern Railroad to commemorate the furthest north the Lewis and Clark expedition reached.  The actual site, four miles to the north, is call Camp Disappointment.  Lewis had split from Clark on the return and traveled up the Marias River in hopes of reporting that the headwaters were further north.  From Camp Disappointment, Lewis could see that the river turned west, not north and the men with him turned back.

As you can see, even here vandals take their toll.
